== Our Chapter ==
IVSA Zurich is one of two IVSA chapters in Switzerland. IVSA Zurich was unfortunately always a quite small MO, mostly due to the fact that our faculty is small too. However we still know how to have fun, and we organise many events to show our fellow students how awesome IVSA is!

== Group exchanges ==
We usually organise one exchange per semester, so two per year. Most of the time the exchanges are within Europe, due to the fact that it is quite expensive to travel to Switzerland. But as a very expensive country in general, having an exchange with IVSA Zurich might be the best (and cheapest) way to see this beautiful country! 
We usually host around 10 people for 5-7 days, and try to show everything that Switzerland has to offer, from visiting Zurich and Lucerne, to going hiking, to visiting a chocolate factory (and leaving with a belly ache from having eaten too much chocolate). We also organise interesting workshops at our faculty such as surgery or equine sport medicine.

In the following you can find some examples of past events we did with our exchange partners. Of course this is by far not everything we organise, but to see the full program you just have to come!

The factory produces chocolate products since 1972. See and how the famous Swiss chocolate is made and create your own chocolate bar!
This is maybe one of the most favorite activity of our exchange students. And don't worry, you will not just leave with a lot of memories but also with a belly full of chocolate

'''Workshops:'''

From surgery workshops about fixing broken bones in small animals, to practising your skills in suturing in the horse clinic, we can offer our exchange students not just fun but also something to learn! The workshops are a great opportunity to gain some hands-on practice and do things we usually just learn in theory about. 
A lot of our professor are happy to organise cool events with us, and some of them are even IVSA alumnis :)


'''Zoo Zurich:'''

The story of the Zoo Zürich reaches back to the year 1925. Then it was an institution founded by animal-friends with the aim to show people different wild animals. Today the zoo doesn’t only want to exhibit animals, but to further learning and experience. People should see the animals in the most natural environment possible.  As a big step the Masoala hall was built (a building with tropical climate, flora and fauna) and a new elephant enclosure was built. The zoo tries to save resources, such as electricity and water. There are also different projects which are financially supported by the zoo, such as the “Masoala National Park” in Madagascar.
Usually we can organise a tour by Prof. Dr. med. vet. J. M. Hatt, our Zoo Vet, who will explain us the most important parts of Zoo- and Wildlife medicine. Even shooting a blowgun was part of this tour!

'''Raclette & Fondue:'''

Switzerland is not just famous for its chocolate, but of course also for its cheese. Two of our traditional dishes are basically just cheese. 

Fondue consists of melted cheese, usually mixed with a white wine, which is served in a communal pot. This pot is heated by a portable stove or spirit lamp, so that the cheese stays hot. Bread is dipped in the cheese and eaten with other side dishes.

Raclette, unlike Fondue, is mostly eaten with potatoes instead of bread. Traditionally the food comes from the Vallis (a canton in the south-west of Switzerland). There it’s not only a meal, but also a way to spend time with friends around a campfire. The cheese is warmed on the campfire and afterwards the melted part gets scratched on a plate, where it’s served with different side dishes. 

So come and dine with us, and how we would say "En guete" (enjoy your meal)!


== Individual exchanges ==
Knowing German is an advantage for most of our clinics, only in the small animal clinic can you get by with only speaking English. Contact us and we can help you arrange an internship in any of our clinics!


== Our university ==
Our faculty was founded in 1902. Today there are two places in Switzerland, where one can study veterinary medicine, one in Bern and one in Zürich. Together the two faculties form the “Vetsuisse Faculty”.
The veterinary clinics in Zurich were built in 1959 and still are in the same place. Today we have clinics for farm animals, horses, small animals and exotic animals, as well as buildings for our various institutes such as pharmacology, toxicology, parasitology, pathology, Veterinary Public Health, etc. 
In 2010 the new small animal clinic was inaugurated. We got the opportunity to use the building of the old clinic as our student room!

Our faculty belongs to the University of Zurich, the biggest university in Switzerland. The university was founded in 1833, so as you can imagine, there are are a lot of pretty nice buildings around.

We are small - but that doesn't stop us from organising a lot of things!
Usually we have about two dinners with our members, at least two cake sells to get some money and one big party. The party we host at the local student club in the middle of Zurich, usually one of the nights our exchange students are around!
