Member of ExCo

In order to be considered suitable for nomination for a position on the ExCo or Secretariat, the member should have sufficient English language skills to communicate effectively with the other members of the IVSA governing entities. This is because IVSA is the official language of IVSA and it is the language in which all official ExCo and Secretariat communication is in. English language skills should therefore be considered necessary for all nominees. Other language skills, while they may be useful, are optional.

All ExCo members should seek advice on problems they encounter from the Trust, as the Trust is an advisory body which has experience to support the ExCo. Personal contact with the Trust is encouraged in the case of difficulties.

The idea behind this position is for each nominee for this role stating what they would bring to the ExCo, essentially allowing them to create their own role and bring new ideas to the table.

This idea was put to the test for the first time at the 62nd Congress in the Netherlands, and resulted in the role "Veterinary Public Health Director".

At the 63rd Congress in Indonesia, the role of "Veterinary Public Health Director" was removed (but the work continued via IVSA's SCOH), and a new "Member of ExCo" position was made available. This resulted in the role "Committee Coordinator".

In both cases where "Member of ExCo" positions have been made available, some guidance from the ExCo has been given to IVSA members on what the ExCo thinks the position should perhaps be (in advance of Congress), and then the incoming ExCo and in particular the incoming Member of ExCo have named and more exactly defined the position. In both cases, the position ended up being similar to what the outgoing ExCo had envisioned.
